Sage Grouse

Centrocercus urophasianus

This grouse is rarely confused with other ground birds, as it is exceptionally large. It is a common inhabitant of the plains and valleys where sagebrush is prosperous. Like the other grouses, the sage grouse nests in soil depressions surrounded by sagebrush or tall grasses. It is a permanent resident of the southeastern portions of Alberta and Saskatchewan, but has been recently extirpated from British Columbia.
