Wood Stork

Mycteria americana

The wood stork inhabits wet meadows, swamps, ponds, and coastal shallows. Any occurrence of these birds in Canada is strictly accidental, although they have been seen in British Columbia from time to time. Wood storks are large birds, similar in size to the great blue heron. They feed on a variety of small invertebrates and small fish. They may be confused for the white pelican, but their down-turned beaks allow for a quick distinction.
