Northern Bobwhite

Colinus virginianus

The northern bobwhite is not widely distributed in southern Ontario, where it is at the northern and western limits of its range. It occurs mainly in cultivated areas with grain or corn, or on weedy abandoned farms near brushy patches or edges. Harsh winters, habitat loss and increasingly intensive agricultural practices are major factors in the decline of the northern bobwhite in Ontario. The species' habitat is not currently protected.
