Eastern Fox Snake

Elaphe vulpina glovdi

The eastern fox snake is the second largest snake in Ontario, reaching lenghts of 137cm. The populations distribution is restricted to the Great Lakes area, particularly the shores of lake Erie and lake Huron. The eastern fox snake is most active during the day, occupying unforested land next to marshes. Intensive urban and agricultural development, and high levels of industrial pollution are threatening the snake with habitat loss and fragmentation, mortality on roads, and human persecution. It is protected by legislation and many populations occur within national or provincial parks.
