Plains Pocket Gopher

Geomys bursarius

At 29 centimetres, this gopher is significantly larger than its cousin, the northern pocket gopher. Its burrows and mounds can be found in deep, fine sandy loam especially on cultivated land and natural meadows. The plains pocket gopher occurs in Canada only in the area of the Roseau River, near Emerson, Manitoba.
