Pigmy Sperm Whale

Kogia breviceps

This is one of the smallest whales, as it seldom reaches more than 2.7 metres. This species is most common on the western shores of the Atlantic and Pacific, which suggests that it prefers to inhabit the tropical currents which circulate in those areas. It also tends to prefer shallow coastal waters, where it dines on small squids and crabs. The pigmy sperm whale is only occasionally found in Canadian waters on the east coast.
